Is your init object persistant?

Planetary annihilation is gonna be great. What are some of your hopes for the game?

Mods and Administrators don't write like they are authority.

Gives the forum a discorded outward portrait.

Anime & Manga / Holy shit G-Senjou no Maou!
« on: October 23, 2013, 08:20:00 AM »
Or as the english translation goes: The Devil on G-string.

If you're in to Visual Novels, I definitely recommend this. It contains 3 side stories, and a main story line of 40 hours, and a few h-scenes at the end  :MVGame:

Oh damn the plot twists.
And the end; holy shit I haven't cried that hard in all the time I can remember. Like, literally 20 minutes of audible compulsive crying.
Then at other times, the characters (who you actually build a personal emotional bond with) sometimes gets put in situations so awkward, that you just uncontrollably table-flip your computer.

This is a definite must-read for any Visual Novel enthusiasts  :RedCoat:

Video Games / Red Alert
« on: October 23, 2013, 08:11:33 AM »

Red Alert was a great game.
Red Alert 2 was indescribable.
Red Alert 3 was eh okay.
I heard they were making a Red Alert 4..?
It would be funny if they made Red Alert 5 before they made Red Alert 4, just for the sake of time travel :DapperKapper:

Now, I've heard people claim that Red Alert is not a strategy game. Personally, I find Red Alert to be the "grand father" to strategy games, it was broken as hell (since it just came down to who could rush first), but it spawned a boundless array of other strategy games, who build on the same concept. What do you think about this matter?

Since they sold C&C to EA, it's gone downhill in my opinion. I hope they sell the C&C series to another company, such as DICE, or Valve.
Who knows, maybe the next RA game will finally have Nazis! :Kappa:

I've also heard people say the RTS genre has been dieing lately. What do you think about that?
I hope that Planetary Annihilation will kickstart a whole new branch of RTS. But I think that the reason that the RTS genre is considered to be dieing, is because Starcraft is such a huge thing that it overshadows all the other brilliant RTS games. Since Starcraft is quite an old game, relatively speaking, it would seem the RTS industry has halted with creating new innovative games.

I've been expecting you, mister McKitty.

Well, I gave it a shot. The biggest problem is desynchronizing when doing heavy calculation.

I tried making some automatic algorithms that just create the boss based on the sound channels of the background music. However, this only seems to be possible if I initialize the whole boss through a multi-dimensional array beforehand.

It's for things like these that I wish game maker supported pointer operators.

You can probably fix this if you go the init room > settings > creation code, and write room_goto_next();

Then, go to your init object, and place all the initiation data into the game start event instead.

Programming Questions / Re: Game size super huge
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:55:09 PM »
Well, I've been searching the web for a solution. It turns out that I was wrong about game maker studio making its resources like images larger. None the less, game maker studio files just are larger, and it doesn't seem like there is anything to be done about it.

If you want a more indepth reason as to why they take up more space, I found this article that explains it pretty well:
https://yal.cc/gamemaker-studio-compacting-project-files/

But as I stated earlier, 100mb isn't that much compared to other games.
If you see it from Solgryns point of view, your 25mb away from making the next Boshy :Kappa:

It shouldn't be /that/ hard to make something with this quality. I'd bet I could do it within a couple of weeks if I didn't have school.

I was captivated by this PMV the other day, and I thought about those timed survive-a-thon bosses. I thought how epic a boss battle like this would be, so I thought I'd share it with you guys, and see what you had to say about it.

(Imagine the platforms that you stand on yourself, and imagine that everything kills you)

I gotta say, I found the final boss amusing for some reason, the way it turns the screen with the music, and how it matches the cherries movement to the vinyl scratch of the music. Also, the part with the spinning 3D-ish ball was sick!!
