Gameplay & Discussion / Re: What's Your Progress?
« on: July 19, 2014, 08:47:00 PM »

7 hours in boss rush so far (screenshot was taken right after beating Piano so it's 5 hours on boss rush there).
1 hour on Dotkid, 3 hours on Piano, 1 hour wasted getting walled at Colonel and currently +2 hours on Emperor working on learning phase 4.
RNG on Piano was insanely tame, I only got once to the spinning bullets (or as I call them, leehe bullets) and I barely had to move at all. Problem is that I did'nt record it because of desync issues, and today I figured that by removing some BGMs from the game's music folder I no longer get desync when recording, which means that sometime in the future I'll have to get on it again, oh the joy.

I went through the cave area and it dumped me out someplace on the left path of no importance which kind of had me asking what the point was.
The Cave area on the Mario path has an item you can obtain, though it spawns later on the game. I guess I should block that path until that item spawns, since the other stuff you can get in there requires djump, which is adquired almost at the end of this version.
Did'nt know enemies had that much health, which made me notice that me and both of my testers are pretty good at spamming the shoot button. Already toned down the health of the enemies by a large ammount. The only way to heal on the right side was to kill enemies (most have 1/5 chance to drop a heart, exceptions are those who have 100% chance to drop blue rupees), but now I've added a couple hearts over the path (they won't appear if you play on Hard or higher though). Also added Health Boxes right before each boss, hopefully this makes the HP bar better because this has been a problem on every version.

The yellow mushroom room isn't that bad imo, as soon as you know how each platform moves it's easy. I did nerf it though (removed most of it actually) since it's a long segment when compared to the ones behind it, hopefully it'll be better in the next version.
This also made me rethink on some segments later on the game, where you have to backtrack through some rooms you already did, I'll most likely add ways to skip those.
Thanks for the feedback, hopefully I can get the beginning of the game done right soon.

Updated to v0.06. Took more time than expected because I implemented the Double Jump, which lead to a lot of issues/getting to places that lead to nowhere, also making the second achievement possible took quite a while.

Pretty much the last relevant save in Stage 4 from what I've heard, though it'll take a while since I can barely do double diamonds (the missing top middle spike makes it easier, but I still suck at them).
Terrible deathcount because there was a save in Tempest that took me like 7k deaths, RZ first and last segment took like 5k each and Uhuhu 3 save 1 took like 4k deaths. Funny how more than half of my deathcount cames from 4 segments lol.

Might wanna concider Mediafire for your files. The one you got there is pretty terrible.
I normally use Mediafire, but apparently my internet is bad enough that the upload stays at 0% forever. I had the same issue with a few other uploaders and DF seems to be the only one that I can upload files easily, even though it's really shit to download there. I'll probably ask someone to upload on MF for me on later versions, or just wait some months where I might be getting a slightly better internet connection.

I'll probably be doing a small update in a couple days improving a couple things and hopefully get into making the tutorial which is really needed.

I Wanna Be The Mirror

About:
Tool : Game Maker 8
Engine : I Wanna Be The Engine trial (tijit's engine)
Version : 0.06
I Wanna Be The Mirror is a project I've been working on for a couple years (I think it started somewhere on early 2012, but I barely worked on the game on 2013 and late 2012), it went through multiple full remakes (at first it wasn't going to be Metroidvania styled) and I have finally decided to release a public version. The game's goal is to get 8 Mirror Pieces (yeah, Kirby&The Amazing Mirror reference there), however I haven't implemented those yet because of the early stage of the game.
On contrast to most fangames, not everything will kill you in one hit on this game. Instead you have a health bar, when that health bar goes down to zero you die. However, spikes and some hazards will still kill you in one hit!. Another thing that should be noted is that you start the game WITHOUT double jump, you'll adquire it later on the game.
This game uses fmod for external music and sound loading, and a few BGOs are loaded externally so don't modify anything on the Sprites, DLL, Music and Sound folders because that may lead to errors.

Controls:
They're mentioned on the readme that comes with the game, but I felt I should post them here aswell since some aren't mentioned in game, and I forgot to include the examine button in the readme:
Left/Right keys: Move left/right
Up: Examine
Shift: Jump/Double jump/Accept
Z: Shoot
X: Grab/Cancel
A: Use equipped item
Enter: Open in-game menu

I hope you enjoy the game and please report any issue you find  :atkHappy:.
EDIT : DL Link updated, and luckily I got MF to work. The changelog is included on the download, but the most important changes are that the Ghost House is now almost finished, the achievements are now working (this still needs a lot of work, and the hints to both achievements are quite vague) and I changed the way throwing objects work (now you have to press X instead of having to release X).

I still don't have a name for my project, and progress is going really slow, although I was expecting that. So far I only finished the first boss and a couple screens and I'm currently more focused on another project, so I'll probably won't finish in time.

Lv 70 : I Wanna Be The Saturn [Medium]
Lv 83 : I Wanna Avoid the Anxious   [Clear]
Lv 89 : I Wanna SunSpike [Clear]
Lv 94 : I Wanna be the GB    [Impossible]
Lv 95 : I Wanna be the Maze   [Medium]   [Find Secret]
Lv 96 : I Wanna Be The Cherry [Oblivion]
Saturn is way too high considering that Zeus is 63 and Genius 69, I'd probably rate it Lv58 since it was easier than Uhuhu 3 for me.
Avoid The Anxious should be Lv 76 imo, it was WAY easier than Play The Endurance 2 on VH which is at Lv 80.
Sunspike is much easier than Rubik's Cube imo. I haven't gotten far on Rubik's Cube so can't rate, but the boss is certainly much harder than Sunspike's.
Isn't GB a game with hundreds of triggers and some tricky segments :P? I'm pretty sure GB on impossible is harder than IWBTG which is at Lv95.
I'm curious about Maze. The game is pretty obscure imo and outside of the avoidances and the K3 screens I only know a few screens. But if the Piano is the essentially the only hard part of the game, then I feel Lv95 is a bit high when a harder avoidance (Palladium) is ranked lower.
Wow, Cherry is the 3rd hardest avoidance ranked  :atkHappy: Although that's actually a bad thing, lol.

Those games where the ones that stood out the most for me. There are other things I found weird(*cough*REVOLUTION ALL PERFECT AT Lv 94) but too lazy to list all of them.

Lv100 : I Wanna See The Barrage   [Moving]

Quote
Lv 94 : I Wanna be the Revolution   [All Perfect]

I think that should've out. None of the bosses is hard to perfect except maybe Yawaraka, but it's so short that even if it takes you like 3000 tries it's not that bad. There's other things I disagree with, but it's mostly avoidance so I don't think it matters that much, plus this is just starting.
As for additions, IWBT Kirwy is pretty good overall, some stages are quite interesting. Kill The Needle Games could be in too I guess, although since it's still unbeaten (as far as I know at least) it'll be hard to rank it.
Edit: Revolution all perfect should'nt be out actually. But I don't think it's hard enough to even be Lv 8x. I play way too much avoidance though, so that's probably why it's easier for me than others. Idk, It's very hard to rate needle/avoidance games in a single list, since they require different skills.

Congratulations :Kreygasm: :Kreygasm: :Kreygasm:
Segment 2 seemed pretty annoying having to do that block "maze" each time. Anyways good luck with Stage 7, most segments seem completly insane.

Enjoyed the game a lot until the INT room. Damn, I struggled so much with it that I ended finishing Stage 1 with 2222 deaths, around 1800 of them coming from the INT room. I am absolutely terrible at jump cancels and playing on a different keyboard rather than my usual did'nt help >_>. I'm currently on I wanna act like a Masochist remake (which according to the readme is the last room of Stage 2) with 2500 deaths, so I don't know if that was me messing up stupidly or INT's room is indeed a huge difficulty spike in the game. And if it happens to be, I'd suggest moving INT somewhere else because so far none of the rooms is nowhere near as difficult as INT.

Anyways, very good game so far, quite enjoyable despite my bad needle skills, although I'm sure that'll change later on. One suggestion though: Make "S Saves" have a different color or sprite. I know this is something minor, but I would'nt be surprised if someone dies without saving due to trying to save the wrong way.

EDIT: I think I reached my limit (Mobiustrip room), although I'm happy that I made it to it with sub 5000 deaths :P. Btw, INT's room is still the hardest for me. D took around 350 deaths, and Beat The Spikes 4 around 700, and those were the hardest without counting INT, although Mobiustrip is probably the hardest room so far.

EDIT2: Umm, scratch that. It wasn't that bad once I realized it was possible by using only the right side of the platform. Second hardest segment though, took around 800 deaths.
EDIT3 Hype :Kappa:: Been replaying the game and did INT's room in less than 25 deaths, also I'm at Needle Reaper 2 with 768. Damn, I was SO bad at needle games before playing this :BibleThump:.

Congrats :Kreygasm:. As far as I know you're the first. Stage 6 should'nt be too bad, iirc the first segment was easy dunno about the second though

The autoscrolling segment is definitively the worst part of my stage, I really disliked playing through it when testing the stage. I think the second half of it is a bit better, although there's a harsh jump on the first segment which takes out the fun of it, especially considering there's a trap later.
I would actually like to take out the scrolling segment since I dunno how to make it better. Do some tweaks on the second half and make it slightly longer. Of course that's if Star's fine, otherwise I guess there's not much I can do about it :U.
