Tournaments / Re: Get Yourself Fangaming: Game Suggestions!
« on: November 11, 2015, 09:15:41 AM »
I Wanna be the 3200min (excluding the maze, perhaps)
I Wanna be the ArioTrap (any version would work)
I Wanna be the SKR (Private)
I Wanna N
I Wanna Not to Miss You
I Wanna Stop the Stars
Narsarsuaq
Wish me luck
Un ange et un crane (Medium difficulty)
was considering 3200min, but considering the fact that it is actually a pretty hard game for the noobies, and the fact that the difficulty select is pretty precise, it isn't that good of an idea.

I don't think Purple Zone is private.  Regardless, that one also has a Windows 8 crash, and I have a fixed version.

Seems like it is. Regardless, if it gets chosen, I'll ask you for the fixed version.

Just to clarify, would this be done the same way as the get yourself speedrunning where the race is intended to have the beginners taking part in  it, or would they be races of beginner friendly games done by the wannabes to showcase said games for people to pick up? Because that would affect the possible suggestions, and if the idea is to have the beginners race as well, some of these games might be a bit harsh, even though they're good to pick at your own pace. I mean sure, people can forfeit the race whenever they want, but I don't think that would encourage many people to get into fangames.
GYF is a beginner friendly event, allowing blind runners or beginners to race alongside the professional speedrunners of that fangame (I know we are a small community, and this may not work out in the long run.). We are just in the suggestion phase, and I will carefully go over the suggestions after the suggestion phase has closed.

So, after some decision making, I've decided to go with "Get Yourself Fangaming"!

What is "Get Yourself Fangaming" (GYF)? GYF is an event very similar to "Get Yourself Speedrunning", an event hosted by SpeedRunsLive, just with Fangames, and hosted by The Wannabes! We would have 1 race every week for 3 weeks, containing 1 or even multiple Fangames in every race!

Now here comes the planning phase. I want YOU guys to let us know what Fangames you'd like to see at GYF!
I've already comprised a list from some of the Fangame groups I've asked this question in.
(Disclaimer: We cannot 100% surely say that some of the Private Fangames will be considered. I will be taking measures to make sure it is okay with the creator to post these games up for download for these races. If not, then they won't be picked. Fangames with Audio Crashes on Win8 will have the fix linked in the race titles.)

Public Fangames:
Challenge 100 Trials
Across the Rainbow
Genki With You
Celebrate 100
Animus
Bread
Design
Go the Run
Connect The Hearts
Exit From Here
8bit
Baton Touch
No Title
Little Runner
Churatch
See The Moon
LoveAE-RYRC
Fa Trap
Super Kid Bros 3
Stop The Stars
HeavenTrap

Private Possibilities:
Purple Zone
Dark Blue
Showdown
GReeeeN
Travel the Mario World
Aura

Audio Crash Circumstances (Win8):
Yellow Star

No-No's:
Uhuhu Spike (any one from the trilogy won't be included.)

Feel free to suggest any Fangames that you would like to see!

GOD, that took forever. 31 hours for one boss, RIP me. I've been grinding the others intermittently, though, so the rest should come more easily.  :atkHappy:

holy crap, that's more hours than my old save of k2 on boss rush, congrats man

Tournaments / Re: Winter Fangame Event: Ideas?

Idk what gets happening but I'd gladly participate in anything like it. Nothing better to do. :I

Well, after a bit of talking with klazen about this, it'll be either gyf or a relay race, both wouldn't require too much work and can be organized in a few weeks

Tournaments / Winter Fangame Event: Ideas?
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:01:43 AM »
Hey guys.

So some people might be wondering, will there be a winter fangame event? Maybe. We just need to know what the community wants to do for a winter event.

I have a few ideas for what this event could be.
First off, we can just do another speedrun marathon like in July, where we gather some of the best speedrunners to showcase their skill and overall to have fun. Obviously, this event had a lot of problems with it, it being the first one the western community has made by itself. We would need to run checks to make sure the estimates are actually accurate, which was a problem for some of the runners (including myself).

My 2nd idea would be having a "Get Yourself Speedrunning" type of event, "Get Yourself Fangaming", where all skill types can join in to have fun, or to compete for the top 3. This, wouldn't require as much organizing and would allow the entire community to get together, unlike the marathon, where not all people could make it in (we're sorry!).

Last but not least we could have a relay race, kinda like what the eastern community's big event is, where we assemble teams of some of the best players to compete and see which team finishes first.

I know this is quite early to be already discussing this, since it's still late summer, but, if you guys have any other ideas for what event should be done this winter, let us know!

Quote
Variety of games: A slightly minor issue in FGM, but a good topic to discuss. Some viewers had pointed out a lack of avoidance, while there was heavy emphasis on needle games. While this is true, this ultimately ended up as a scheduling/submission issue. For future events, I encourage the organizers of the event to promote all game types, and to spread them out evenly in the event.
Another idea would be to make "blocks" of games. Like an avoidance block, a needle block, an adventure block. This would make easier for viewers who like specific genres not to miss what they want to watch. I'm not sure this is a good idea, but I figured I'd mention it just in case someone can elaborate on it.

In my opinion, this isn't a good idea. First off, this isn't like gdq, where runners are available at any time. Maybe small blocks of the same genre spread over the entire marathon would work? But I bet it would cause a lot of problems for the organizers to plan everything.

Even though it's probably been mentioned more times then most of the things on the list, the time estimates were a huge problem and were seriously sinking in time that could of been used for runners and for more spotlight over the entire community.
