Not knowing what to play, I was inspired by bleedingears. Pretty fun little game.

Made it to 200 finished fangames with I wanna be the Jguy Spike 2, nice Saturnesque needle. Worth a play.

On a whim I bought a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 with Cherry MX Blue as well and it feels much better doing platforming with this than the Sidewinder.

I also use a Razer Blackwidow ultimate and I have no problem with shorthopping. Jumps like ledges should make no difference whatsoever no matter what keyboard you use. Sure you might have problems on a different keyboard because of muscle memory, but it shouldn't make a difference in the long term.

I was thinking that the ledge jumps and the like probably had more to do with muscle memory since I just changed back. I still have a harder time with the small jumps though, maybe it is just technique or maybe some other switches would be better. I can still manage with what I have though :)

Gameplay & Discussion / Mechanical keyboard?
« on: July 06, 2014, 01:53:12 PM »
Hi, I was just wondering what others do here. When I first started playing fangames I used a mechanical keyboard (SteelSeries 6G v2) but I kept having trouble doing small jumps so I tried a cheapo keyboard and I found it much easier to do jumps like diamonds, double diamonds, M jumps and stuff like that. Now I have switched back to my mechanical keyboard and I found that while it is easier to do diamonds for me now, it still is a little harder and I also have a harder time doing ledge jumps and other jumps in that vein. What do you guys use for fangames?

I Wanna Give You An Easy Game 2. OK game I guess. The fireworks going off all the time are annoying though.

Star the dream was a pretty fun little game, worth a play. Rainbow Rain was not, mostly because it is ugly as hell. It did have some OK platforming though.

I liked the platforming in this game, but I just cannot get around the fact that I feel it would be much more enjoyable for some reason if the background, sprites and the kid were not almost the same colour the whole game through.

...This has, without a doubt, been one of the most frustrating fangame experiences I've ever had. Call me sucky, bad, incompetent, whatever, but this game royally kicked my ass. Whether it be the constant trolls, the precision ledge jumps and diagonals, the unhealthy amounts of f-jumps, or sections that go on way too long (the factory and final tower for two), I suffered immensely. I busted the jump button on my controller thanks to the number of parts where you had to mash it repeatedly, like the waterfall cherry chase corridor, or the Shy Guy fight. So often I felt my soul dying at doing the same thing over and over again, either because I had to deal with numerous trolls and precision jumps in one go, or because despite 60 fangames beat I still suck immensely. I've put up with and beaten Boshy, yet with that game it was funny and had neat secrets. The one secret I got in this game took over a 1000 deaths, and that was only because I couldn't back out of it and had to complete it in order to continue the game. Fool as I was, I hit the save, not realizing the hell I condemned myself to.

And yet... after all that suffering, after climbing that godawful tower and taking a break, I met... tranquility. The final boss, unlike all the others, was actually soothing, and very well done. Simple mix of avoidance and actually fighting, set to soft yet invigorating music. In little time it was over, and then the end credits rolled, and the music there was like salve to the soul. I felt at peace over such a sublime final boss; all tension left me. Multiple times I asked myself if seeing the sunrise was worth it, but when that picture came up, and the sun in all its glory finally making its appearance... I just don't know.

To me, this game went on too long and had some poor design choices, and also had a habit of ripping off screens from other games (but then again, who hasn't? This is like the third game I've seen that had that one GB screen). Maybe this game is more for pros, perhaps. All I know is, this game made me realize quite harshly how much a scrub I am, and forever will be. Though I will never become a Denferok or CosmicSense or any of those greats, at least I can look upon these various games for inspiration, to get me through the day and provide endless free entertainment. I just need to pick out my games better.

Yet getting to fight that cool last boss... almost worth.

Congratulations!  :IceFairy:

Finished Needle Man and Needle Man 2, okay needles I guess.

Also finished I wanna Bread, I liked everything except for the avoidance fight. I first started with the area with the avoidance, and stopped, then I started over and kept that area for last, since I just do not like avoidance fights. It would have been a real waste if you did not have the choice of stages, since I would not have kept playing it.

Darkness Light, could do with about 25% less trolls, but it was a fun game, I agree with conlycameobasher that the final boss was annoying though.

Destroy the spikes 2, the last two jumps for some reason was very hard for me, took me close to a thousand deaths.
