Hey,
didn't know where else to put this, so generally what the title said, Game Maker Studio standard licence which is normally 50$, is currently free.
Here a little description on how-to:
  • Download GameMaker Studio from the link https://www.yoyogames.com/studio/download
  • Install it
  • Upon launch, you should be prompted to update GMS
  • It may only update you to the latest stable version
  • To address this, start GMS then right click the icon in the system tray
  • This will let you change to the beta updates channel
  • Choose “check for updates” after changing to that channel
  • You should then be prompted to update to version 1.2.1214 (or newer)
  • After updating, you should be offered the chance to get Standard free on launch
  • You should receive a key

And then to make things a little less obvious the prompt to upgrade to the Standard license is on one of those slideshow images under the "welcome" tab. So it may not be obvious when you first look at it.
Also I don't know how long this offer is running so you should be fast if you want it^^

Edit: If its true you can even upgrade to the professional version (99$) for free here: https://www.yoyogames.com/developers/promotions/tizen-game-drive/apply (at least some redditors say that their version got upgraded to professional with they key provided by this site)

It takes a while, the servers are overloaded because of reddit right now, took about 30-45 minutes until I received my key.

To everyone saying Game Maker: Studio is not wort the effort:

If you are planning on making larger projects, or if you are planning on making money off of your games, Game Maker: Studio is the way to go.
However, unless you are planning to make a fan-base of your own, making these simplified fan-games in GM 8.1 is fine.
GM: Studio brings about a variety of new features, that a simple fan-games doesn't need, however the people who create the fan-bases do.
When you don't know the rules, anything's possible.

Im not into Game Maker but the only complain I heard about the studio version is the removal of the "execute_string()" function.
However since im not into it I don't know what this is doing and what it affects, but for the stuff I read people say it was mostly to play and derp around because it was a really messy function. The biggest positive I heard is the big improvement in performance because it completely compiles code now.

Yes,
Execute string is a very resource demanding function. It, along with other functions such as all the _add functions, were removed due to being Windows Only. Game Maker: Studio is able to go cross-platform, to mac, mobile, etc. However, these functions were only shortcuts. There are numerous ways to get around the use of these functions, and ways that are much less resource intensive.

If it's compatible with other OS's, then maybe I'll give it a try. I've just gotten so used to the GML of 8.1, and 8.1's interface, that I don't know if I really wakt to try and make a switch. :(

You can switch the interface of GM:S to GM 8's color scheme, under File > Preferences... > General. And the script editor can be changed in preferences as well, under the tab Scripts and Code.
