fangam.es/intro - An introduction page for newcomers
« on: January 09, 2016, 02:12:49 PM »
I thought it would be nice to have a link to give to newcomers interested in the community that explains what we're about, has some useful links, and other information. So I made one!

The URL is fangam.es/intro. Everyone can post this link in Twitch chats if people ask, put it in your channel description, or whatever you want. And if a fangame gets into a future GDQ event, I think this would be especially useful. Please take a look at it, and please let me know if you have any suggestions. :)

This is really nice. Don't have a nitpick at all (other than the whole page was shifted slightly to the left).

Looks great! Challenging is spelled wrong in the "Needle" explanation.

Might want to tell people wha category each of those beginner fangames are in.

I think to qualify as a beginner needle game one would have to have a save point on every platform you can stop on that's after a tricky jump. :) And I don't think such a fangame exists.

Beyond that i think there should be beginner games from all categories.

What would count as "tricky" though? A gate? A diagonal?

Why though? This is a very arbitrary distinction to make. The beginner games there are all good for beginners because of their low difficulties which are created by a range of different reasons, only one of which being save placement.

I agree that they should have their genre listed next to them though.

So, with that logic, I wanna L is a beginner game? :Kappa:

The page looks great, the things that have helped me most though are the align guides, do you think it would be worth including these somewhere?

Zurai's strat guide (https://www.iwannacommunity.com/forum/index.php?topic=1202.0),

thebmxbandit's align guide (https://www.iwannacommunity.com/forum/index.php?topic=1342)

and Kinata's Pixel Techniques videos (https://www.you......tube.com/channel/UCp0caWk9pHK5qN_CfoEPLdw)

Since it's for people new to the games, I'd say those would probably do more to overwhelm and confuse than do much good. Not that they're not good resources of course, just that you can't dump everything in someone's lap at once.

It might also be a good idea to include the link to thebmxbandit's guide to fix the crashes in win8 (https://www.iwannacommunity.com/forum/index.php?topic=1387.0)
