Xbox 360 controller problems
« on: August 07, 2015, 06:27:25 AM »
I've tried to play a few different games "I wanna ..." games but no one works with my xbox 360 wired controller. I have played different games through steam with it, as well as with dolphin emulator. I am not using any additional programs to make it work, just plugged it in and everything worked. The "I wanna ..." games I have tried have all asked me to install direct play for windows when running them, which fails when I try I assume because it says it is deprecated. All though the games run anyway, but none of them react to my controller. These are the only problems I have had with the controller. I got tipped about xpadder in the "I wanna find my destiny" game thread, but I don't want to pay for a program when it hasn't been necessary with any other game until now.

Just updated to Windows 10 and it makes no difference, so neither win 8.1 or 10 worked.

Any ideas? Does it just work for others, do I need directplay for it to work maybe? Any free alternatives to xpadder if a third party program is absolutely needed?

Most of these games have hardcoded input configurations, where it will only respond to the keys the developer picked. The other few allow you to configure the inputs yourself, in a settings menu in game or something. You can try changing your controls there if the game allows it.

Most people that use controller in fangames are required to use a third party program to remap their gamepad buttons to keyboard keys. Xpadder is the one I hear about most often. I've used JoyToKey before, but not for fangames, so I can't confirm it works. But in short, you will need to find a third party gamepad-to-keyboard mapper if you want to use a controller in fangames.

Huh, is xpadder not free? Never heard about that.

But yeah, most games on steam have built-in controller support, while fangames usually don't, for games that don't have support directly you have to use something like joy2key or xpadder, both should work just fine. Most people I know use xpadder, but I use joy2key and it also works, and it's free (although it does occasionally pop-up a message asking if you wanna support the product)

Hope this helps, and good luck have fun with your fangaming

I googled xpadder and got xpadder.com, which ended up with asking for bank stuff.. Didn't seem very legit to be honest! Anyway will try joy2key then..! Thank you for the answers :)

I used Joy2Key a long time ago on some fangames and I remember it working fine for a 360 controller, so I would definitely try that program!

I used Joy2Key for a bit as well, and it works fine.
