The "Phobia"
« on: October 02, 2014, 01:58:23 AM »
Hey everyone, I didn't know where to go for this so I guess I'll post it here. Playing K3 Secret 2, and I get to a part with an upwards diagonal, pretty standard. However, for some reason, I was having a hard time pressing both 'up' and 'right' at the same time on my keyboard (like my fingers would physically resist me pressing the buttons at the same time, hard to explain). This eventually evolved in to.... The "Phobia". This still continues today and that's why I'm posting about because it has become very distracting while playing fangames as it as harder for me to do a diagonal or corner that requires pressing two buttons at the same time rather than doing a plane or double diamond which doesn't require a full jump. The reason I'm posting is to see if anyone has had this problem before or anything similar (doubtful), and how to fix/help it? People have suggested just grinding the inputs over and over again, which works for a little bit, maybe a screen. But the different jumps always make it come back, its very weird. If this sounds weird to you, it sounds even weirder to me because I have no idea what's going on in my fingers/brain/whatever and I basically can't control it. It feels like an involuntary reaction to NOT press the keys at the same time, but only at the same time, 1 frame after another is fine, but sometimes you can't do that so... :/. Anyway, end of the paragraph now, if you have any comments or questions, please do say something, anything helps at this point, it's a mystery to me as much as you.

Slow down your play. Make it your goal to hit jump + right/left on the same frame for each and every jump where it's possible.

Grind this out in games that aren't Kamilia 3.

Play a lot more in general. Make a goal of focusing on this input for an hour a day for a week or two. Prove to yourself that you're not scared of this problem. The more you stare down this anxiety the faster it will go away.

I kind of have the same problem, although it involves 1-framing off of a TAS jump most of the time. My suggestion is to count to a number then force yourself to jump, or something like that.

This is what i've been trying to do but it just turns into me repeating "1...2...3..." over and over again because the whole 'forcing' part doesn't really work for me

position your 2 fingers over "up" and "left/right" then move the arm (NOT THE FINGERS) success rate = 95%

Problem is that jumping and moving to a direction is usually executed on two different arms.

Solution: Play more; get used to it.

I had the same problem if I get you right. It's like that my fingers just doesn't want to press the keys if I stay still on a spot and want to press two keys at the same moment. What I do know is just platforming really fast instead of staying to long on one position. This kinda helped me.

Hah, I had the same problem with a few parts in K3 ... you just have to quickly jump once you're at your "spot" to jump from. Don't think about the jump - just do it. If I waited too long, I would fail it 9/10 times. Just keep going.
