Title: Can anyone get good at avoidances?
Post by: Lss40 on November 07, 2016, 06:22:04 PM
I've been playing fangames for something like 15 months now. And of course, over the time I have gotten better at fangames. Other than well... avoidances.

Do you guys think it's possible to get better at avoidances just by playing them a lot? Lately I feel like there is something more to my inability to do them. Despite playing both easy and hard avoidances for many hours (quite regularly too), it feels like I don't get better at them at all. Could it be I am simply physically limited somehow? Bad reflexes, or eyesight? Or maybe I just can't concentrate? What do you think? I still find them fun, and I love watching other people beat them, but this lack of improvement has been frustrating me lately.

Yeah, pretty much anyone can do fine. I have a below average reaction time (~350ms) yet I can play avoidances without too much issue. My only tip for when you start regressing is taking breaks

Be patient and eventually you'll be better at them, just don't give up on trying

Most important thing is to have fun. Being good doesn't equal having fun, yet another point where I can speak from experience. Take a break when you need it and praise what you have.

^this p much. no point in doing something well you dont enjoy or much rather the a certain boss/song as example

anyone can get good at avoidance if you have fun playing them. the thing you need to learn is to understand when you need to take breaks. playing avoidance for hours in one sitting is not really the best thing to do. rather play in short sessions and take some breaks inbetween. eyesight shouldnt be an issue as long as you see the objects properly. learning how to get the right vision for certain attacks can be tricky. things like peripheral vision and others like that you can definitely learn/get better at. most of these will just come over time.

This happens to me aswell. Since I started playing I have improoved a lot in things like needle or trap, but not avoidance. It gets kinda frustrating, I can't complete any fangame with bosses. Not even CTBG :c
I thaught playing other games such as Geometry Dash or Sound Dodger would help me improove but I still suck at it ;-;

Dodging in these games is inherently different from dodging stuff in fangames. At the end of the day, fangames are really their own genre and the best way to improve at bosses in fangames is to play bosses in fangames. Everyone has given great advice.
