Title: Level Design Experiment
Post by: GalacticHooloovoo on October 20, 2015, 08:00:13 PM
Hello!

I recently had an idea:
What would happen if different fangame players created a screen using an outline?

So I'm going to try it out.

Here is the outline:

(sorry, for some reason I couldn't get the image to work (probably just me being stupid))

Basically, use whatever you want to create the level. However, I have to set up some rules and other stuff:
1. Do not remove any blocks that are already there.
2. Use whatever you like to create it, whether it be GameMaker or RMJ (or something else).
3. The red death block represents a portal.
4. If your level has triggers, please indicate them (or just make a needle :OneHand:)
5. You may add blocks.
6. You may choose the start location, I just thought it would be easy for me where it is.

Please post your screens so everyone can see them!

Here is mine:

Thanks for your time!  :tenKapple:

EDIT: Here is a link for the map download (for RMJ):

This is a pretty neat idea, but you could save the RMJ file and put it up instead of just a screenshot, not that it matters that much, but it wouldn't hurt either :p

I feel that it would just be easier and faster to do this, but I guess that I could include the map.

Making the entire thing a corridor limits it too much, would be more fun if you had more freedom honestly

This is a very good idea, this might be posted in the wrong thread though should this be in The Lounge by any chance? correct me if i'm wrong.

Neat idea, but back and forth narrow corridors always feel sort of uninspired.

I agree with everyone else: interesting idea, and I think it could have potential on a more open and less limiting map. You or someone else maybe should post a new map either in a new thread or this thread.

I came up with a gimmick inspired by the corridors. Spikes are invisible, and your bullets illuminate where they are, so you kind of explore cautiously through the level. I know making a gimmick probably wasn't the intention, and graphics probably weren't either, but I just got carried away. :)

Because of what everyone has been posting, I changed the screen to be more open-ended. I also changed the rules, so be sure to check those out if you plan on making a level!

Thanks for your suggestions!
